Working from home these days is far more common than pre-Covid but the employer’s responsibilities for the safety of their staff, does not end at the office door.  The course seeks to make sure that both employees and employers understand their responsibilities and highlights some of the hazards that are present when working from home.

Health & Safety for Homeworkers Course Content

  1. In this section, we will look at the common causes of slips, trips and falls at home which are some of the most common causes of accidents, so we cover preventative measures.
  2. Learners need to think about creating boundaries to separate their home and work life, finding the right workspace and creating a productive workstation, including having strategies to avoid or address, loneliness and isolation.
  3. We will consider the effects that manual handling and DSE can take on your body and the differences between working in an office against working at home. We will cover posture, setting up a home workstation, lighting, glare and manual handling.
  4. Fire is a serious hazard and so we will look at the risk that it can pose in the home and the things in the home that are potential fuel sources, the importance of smoke alarms and ensuring electrical equipment is being used correctly and not damaged.
  5. This section covers at what an employer should consider for their homeworkers, including having a buddy system, check-ins, preparing for emergencies, risk assessments and having visitors in the home.
  6. The final section looks at mental health and the importance of a healthy work:life balance and how to create physical, mental and social boundaries, the risk of loneliness and isolation and what homeworkers can do to maintain connections.

Test & Certificate

There will be one or two questions in between sections which are designed to reinforce learning and ensure maximum engagement but do not count towards the final test. This test usually has around 20 multiple choice questions and when passed, a printable certificate can be downloaded.
