Fire Warden/Marshal in Care

The course is designed to help learners understand their legal duties when it comes to performing risk assessments, co-ordinating fire evacuations and managing emergency procedures. It is suitable for anyone wishing to undertake Fire Warden/Marshal responsibilities within a medical or care setting and will help ensure a safe workplace.  Evacuation in a fire emergency and preventing fires within the social care sector is an incredibly important role as there are challenges within this that are not faced in other sectors.

1. The first section looks at the basics of what a Fire Warden is and what are the responsibilities of the role. It will give general information about the dangers posed by fire, common fire signage, the potential costs associated with fire damage and fire detection systems.
2. We cover the importance of performing Fire Risk Assessments, as well as regular and organised evacuation drills.  We also look at the requirement for having an Emergency and Evacuation Plan and about the people who may be at particular risk, explaining what Personal Evacuation Plans are and who may need them.
3. Understanding what is involved in a safe evacuation is crucial for any Fire marshal. This section of the training covers human behaviour in the event of an evacuation, and allows the delegate to appreciate the key role of the Fire Marshal in maintaining safety and order in an emergency situation. We also look at evacuation equipment and refuges and explain evacuation strategies that are appropriate to care settings.
4. There are different types of fires and so different types extinguishers that should be used. Here we set out which ones are appropriate to which type of fire, as well as looking at how they are operated.
5. The final section explains the relevant UK legislation associated with fire safety.

Test & Certificate

There will be one or two questions in between sections which are designed to reinforce learning and ensure maximum engagement but do not count towards the final test. This test usually has around 20 multiple choice questions and when passed, a printable certificate can be downloaded.
