Fire Warden/Marshal in Construction Course Contents

1. Background

This section covers the basics including fire spread, the dangers of smoke, the causes and costs of fires on construction sites, how to reduce the risks of fire and understanding the meaning of different types of signs and where they should be placed.​

2. Fire Prevention

This section explains the role of the Fire Warden/Marshal and the importance of a safe working environment, including the need for a fire emergency plan and fire evacuation plan. It explains what a fire risk assessment is and what it means to the Fire Warden/Marshal. It looks at people who may be at particular risk, explaining what personal emergency evacuation plans are and who may need them. It includes a checklist for the Fire Warden/Marshal.

3. Fire Evacuation

This section looks at how people react in fire-related situations – demonstrating how critical the role of a Fire Warden/Marshal is. It explains the importance of fire drills and covers the emergency procedure, including raising the alarm and calling the fire service. It explains a Fire Warden/Marshal’s duties during an evacuation.

4. Fire Extinguishers and Classes

This section looks at and explains the different classes of fire, the different types of fire extinguisher and how to operate them – including which extinguishers to use on each class of fire.

5. Legislation Overview

This presenter-led section of the Fire Warden/Marshal course explains the legislation in a straightforward way. It’s simple to understand and concentrates on the relevant part of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.


Test & Certificate

There will be one or two questions in between sections which are designed to reinforce learning and ensure maximum engagement but do not count towards the final test. This test usually has around 20 multiple choice questions and when passed, a printable certificate can be downloaded.
