Fatal Accident stats
HSE have just announced their Fatal Accident stats for 2018-19. The total of fatalities rose by 6 from last year, to 147 workers, slightly above the average over the last 5 years. Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries were the worst industry with Construction not far behind but being at its lowest on record. The major cause was Falls from Height which accounted for 40 deaths ( a rise of 5 on last year) and then Struck by Moving vehicle at 30. Deaths in the 16-59 age range formed the majority of fatalities and in addition to these, 92 members of the public were killed as a result of work-connected accidents.
