The concise and easy-to-follow course format allows you to learn about the risks associated with hazardous substances, as well as understand control measures and emergency procedures. This course identifies which substances can be hazardous and how they can be harmful; it also looks at the everyday storage and use of chemicals and hazardous substances, as well as covering CoSHH risk assessments and what they are used for.

By providing effective CoSHH training, employers can help to ensure that everyone in the workplace is competent to carry out their work safely. All levels of staff and management should be able to recognise the potential hazards posed by their work, be able to take action to reduce or eliminate the risks and understand the role of personal protection in ensuring good occupational health.

COSHH Training Course Contents

1. Hazardous Substances

In this section we look at what constitutes a hazardous substance, whose responsibility it is to manage CoSHH safety and the importance of understanding the risks, protecting yourself and limiting your exposure

2. Warning Symbols

There is a standard system for labelling and classifying chemicals and hazardous substances and in this section we look at the different symbols which are used to show the different levels of danger.

3. Hazards/Risks

There are many different types of chemicals and substances and they can each affect you in different ways. They can cause pollution and damage the environment too.

In this section we look at how you find out what the dangers are, the information that should be available to you and how important it is that you read the information provided when you use, transport, store or dispose of hazardous substances.

4. Protection

Learning from accidents and near misses helps to lower the chances of them happening again, which is why reporting incidents and recording all the details are so important.

In this section we are looking at recording incidents, monitoring health hazards, using personal protective equipment and control equipment; and finally we cover a worst-case scenario and look at what to do in an emergency if there is a chemical spill or release.

Test & Certificate

This training programme concludes with a 20 question multiple choice test with printable certificate. In addition, brief in-course questionnaires guide the user through the sections of the training, and are designed to reinforce learning and ensure maximum user engagement throughout.
