What and How Do We Collect Information about you and How Is It Used?
At Helmsman we collect and process a substantive amount of ‘personal data’ (as defined in the Data Protection Act 1998) as part of our administrative procedures, as a company and whilst we provide our services. This data may be about clients, their staff, our staff, trainers, consultants and suppliers. The security of everybody’s data is equally as important to us and all feasible security measures are in place. We process data in both electronic and manual (paper) formats but all processing is conducted in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Part of our compliance is our ‘Notification’ with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the Regulator for this legislation. The ‘Notification’ is the registration of the purposes for which we collect and process personal data. The entry on the Public register of Data Controllers is available on the ICO website – www.ico.gov.uk
Data is shared with third parties if necessary as part of our contracted services and/or if we are required to do so by law. We cannot accept any responsibility for processing conducted by third parties outside our remit. We may sometimes require ‘sensitive personal data’ e.g. on a physical/mental health condition or illness, to provide the best service we can. In providing this information, your consent to this specific processing will be taken as given unless you advise us otherwise.
None of the above affects your rights of access to personal data that we may hold on you. All requests for such information must be made in writing (e-mail is acceptable) to the company. Please note that we will charge a £10 administration fee for such a request. This fee is payable in advance and is non-refundable.
