Outsourcing Training Management
Staying competitive, particularly by saving costs, is not just a ‘might-do’ these days but a ‘must-do’.
Taking the eye off core business functions is one way in which to lose that edge so more organisations are looking at where they can obtain an advantage by outsourcing non-core functions.
There are really only two models for outsourcing all, or part, of a training and development function.
"Tied Training Management"
The first is to employ the services of what is an existing training company whose business it is to sell their courses. Of course they will manage the training function for you – but really it is a means of locking an organisation in to using that provider.
Whilst you may be able to get a better rate with them, you may well find that you are actually buying in more training, or getting less for your budget. However, outsourcing has some advantages –
- One point of contact
- No holidays, sickness or time-off to worry about
- One invoice as opposed to many
- Problems are no longer your responsibility
- Time spent on repetitive admin, is saved
- No need to research courses and providers
- A fixed contract that can be terminated if added value is not being given
"Unbiased Training Management"
The other approach is to use a company that does not provide training but whose core business is to manage it for others. Outsourced Training Management, or Vendor Neutral Training Management, has distinct advantages over the first model.
More value
In our experience, it is always cheaper to use an independent than be tied to a training provider, most of whom are the larger companies whose rates are sometimes very high
More economy of scale
The outsourcing company will buy in training from many different training providers with whom it will have rates that you could not achieve and where you have approved providers, it will still attempt to get even better rates from them
More independence
No commissions taken = no ties. By charging an annual fee, all savings on training are passed on to you and, if there is any problem with a supplier, as no money is being received from them, there is no conflict of interest and decisions are made solely in your interest
More knowledge
Being independent, the depth of knowledge of what is available in the wide world of training and development, is immense. With a training company doing the work, it is really only interested in what it can provide
Event-Managment
As well as outsourced training management services, we can also provide training courses and other developmental interventions, including coaching. Because of the number of courses that we arrange, we can also event-manage seminars, staff meetings, away-days, Director's Conferences etc. Please contact us for further information.
